About

Through the creation of her doll-like creatures, Sam Perks’s work continues to explore emotions, attitudes and personalities in response to events around her. Her latest work explores the search for home and the move from a hectic city life to a seemingly quieter country life managing cows and bees as well as a response to the crazy year 2020 has been. Drought, fire, floods and disease have become the “normal”.   Many emotions are exposed in such events and things, as in all life are not always what you are expecting. It is often hard to listen to what your heart wants to do and to settle in to new life experiences.

As well as her sculptural pieces, Sam’s work also includes functional wares, abstracted wall art and glass work. She has keen interests in mixed media, textural surfaces and the combination of light and porcelain. She loves following quirky story lines within her work and seeing the enjoyment that it gives to others.

Sam has been a practicing potter since 2010 after completing her Advanced Diploma at NSI (Northern Beaches) TAFE. She was awarded the first Artist in Residence at NSI TAFE in 2008, where she then taught until 2019. Sam is currently living and working in Moruya, on the beautiful South Coast of NSW, Australia.
